The protege effect is a well-known psychological phenomenon that states teaching other people a subject helps a person learn that subject more effectively in the first place. The idea is that if a person is told they have to teach someone else a set of materials, they will spend more time learning not only the surface information, like remembering a simple answer on a test, but the underlying reason and the true “why” behind something. When that takes place, the protégé effect occurs.
